Some of the troubleshooting solutions below involve making changes to the operating system of your PC. Such changes should only be carried out by users who are confident in making such changes. We also recommend that before making any operating system configuration

Cannot Download CRYENGINE, Cannot Re-install  it and/or the CRYENGINE Launcher is Causing Similar Problems

Issue: Cannot download CRYENGINE, cannot re-install it and or the CRYENGINE Launcher is causing similar problems.

Solution: Try the steps below for a CRYENGINE Launcher Cleanup. NOTE: Backup your project files before carrying out any of the steps below.

Registry Keys to delete:

1. CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\GfaceGmbh\GamesInstallPath\<everything engine related>

2. LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\GfaceGmbh\gameinstallpath\<everything engine related>

Delete the following folders on your hdd (you might need to expose 'hidden folders' if those listed below cannot be found).

3. C:\Users\[your Username]\AppData\Local\CRYENGINE_Launcher

4. C:\ProgramData\GFACE <installLocation_cryengine.txt> <installLocation_cryengineassets.txt>

Once you have performed the steps above try to re-install the CRYENGINE Launcher and CRYENGINE.

Launcher Not Updating

Issue: Launcher fails to update when the Sandbox Editor is open.

Solution: Ensure that before updating the Launcher, the Sandbox Editor is closed (remember to save any project you have open before closing the Sandbox Editor).

Engine Will Not Install

Issue: Sometimes Anti Virus (AV) software can cause the Engine to not install.

Solution: Ensure that your AV software is white-listed.

Solution: If the problem is not resolved as per the above, then 1: try changing the folder location where the Engine is installed, 2: select another hard drive if you have one available, 3: Always ensure that you have enough free disc space (3GB per Engine installation).

DLL Conflicts (Engines Not Visible)

Issue: Dll conflicts can sometimes occur and this prevents Engines from being visible. Why? Some dlls that are packaged with the Engine (namely ssleay32.dll and libeay32.dll) are already being used by another application/package and are therefore installed somewhere in a Windows folder. Other dlls that we are aware of and that can cause conflicts are libcore.dll and libcurl.dll.

Solution: The offending dlls need to either be removed or moved to the root folder of the application/package that is using them. NOTE: Do make sure to backup any dlls that you intend/will remove from C:\Windows. FURTHER NOTE: These dlls can be used by a number of applications/packages so they can be difficult to find.

Solution: If the problem is not resolved as per the above, then storing the libeay32.dll and the ssleay32.dll in the installation directory of the Launcher, rather than the temporary folder the Launcher creates when running can resolve the issue.

New Engine Not Visible

Issue: You have created a new project or have been informed that a newer version of the Engine is available - however the new Engine is not visible in your Launcher.

Solution: Login and out of the Launcher, this will clear the cache and will expose the new Engine to your Launcher.

Sandbox Editor Will Not Launch

Issue: The Sandbox Editor will not launch - User receives a notification to "Validate the Project" and or receives the error message "Error while saving to C:\ProgramData\Crytek\CRYENGINE\cryengine.json" .

Solution: Normally updating to the latest available Launcher version will resolve the issue.

Solution: If the problem is not resolved as per the above, then try the following;

  1. Go to the CRYENGINE Launcher folder (the folder location depends on where you have chosen to install the Launcher and Engine versions - normally this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Crytek\CRYENGINE Launcher\Crytek\
  2. Hold Shift Key + right click the mouse
  3. Depending on your system, then either click on the option Open command line windows here or Open PowerShell Window here
  4. In the case of Open command line windows here, then type cryselect install
  5. In the case of Open PowerShell Window here, then type .\cryselect.exe install
  6. These actions should restore the Register Engine option
  7. Make sure you are still at C:\Program Files (x86)\Crytek\CRYENGINE Launcher\Crytek\
  8. Open (double click) the Engine version that you want to register the Engine to (Engine versions are normally named CRYENGINE_5.2, 5.3, 5.4 etc.)
  9. Right click on the cryengine folder (this is of the file type CryEngine version)
  10. Click Register engine

Further Reading: The section on How to Migrate a Project from an older version of CRYENGINE to a newer version of CRYENGINE is also worth reading. This section can be found in the Release Notes section of our documentation and is updated with each major release of CRYENGINE.

Unable to Validate a Project

Issue: Sometimes when using Engine versions 5.3 and or 5.4 an issue can occur whereby a project(s) cannot be validated. NOTE: We are aware of this and are working on a fix.

Solution: There are several things to try in order to resolve this issue

  1. Firstly logout and login back in - this will refresh the cache
  2. Remove the project(s) in question from your list of projects (this will not delete the project(s) from your hard drive location) and then re-import

Solution: If the problem is not resolved by the above, then running the project manually via the command line is an option

  1. Go to the CRYENGINE folder (the folder location depends on where you have chosen to install the Launcher and Engine versions - normally this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Crytek\CRYENGINE Launcher\Crytek\CRYENGINE_5
  2. Hold down the Shift Key + right click the mouse. Depending on your system, then either click on the option Open command line windows here or Open PowerShell Window here
  3. Then type bin/win_x64/Sandbox.exe -project "your/full/project/path/Game.cryproject" NOTE: The quotation marks are important
  4. In the case of the Open command line windows here, then type bin/win_x64/Sandbox.exe-project "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\CRYENGINE Projects\My Project\Game.cryproject"
  5. In the case of Open PowerShell Window here, then type bin/win_x64/Sandbox.exe-project "$env:userprofile \Documents\CRYENGINE Projects\My Project\Game.cryproject"

Issue: If a preview version of the Engine has been registered, then in some cases un-necessary entries can be present in the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%CrytekCRYENGINE/cryengine.json file. Normally these entries start with a GUID for example "{2a005b59-5500-4106-a5f9-682827150126}" .  Also, the info.version attribute can be missing.

Solution: Manually remove the un-necessary entries and ensure that the version info is present. NOTE: Not every users content will look the same as that used in the examples below.

Slow Download Speeds

Issue: Download speeds are slow.

Solution: There are several things that you can check/change to alleviate download speed issues:

  1. Firstly, allow the Launcher and the Engine executable to be exposed to your firewall
  2. The Launcher and Engine should also be white-listed on your antivirus software
