User Interface Introduction
One of the most important aspects of any game is the user interface, no matter the size or platform. In most cases the first thing a user is presented with is the user interface, so it must be taken seriously as an entry point for onboarding and general guidance in your game design. In this chapter we will simply be looking at the basic import and execution procedure of rendering a Flash UI (SWF) over the top of your game when you enter game mode in the Editor.
The first thing we will do is start Flash and be presented with the welcome screen.
- The current Scaleform version that is used requires versions of Adobe Flash CS6 and lower to compile Actionscript 2. The following link explains how to access Flash CS6 through Creative Cloud or manual download. Adobe Downloads.
- You will be doing parts of XML scripting and visual scripting in this course to complete the basic functionality.
Steps for Flash File Creation
Select the Actionscript 2.0 template under the Create New column.
Change the resolution of the project to 1920x1080 which allows us to conform to most 16:9 standard setups, alongside changing the FPS to 30.
Change the Publish Settings to Flash Player 10 and Actionscript 2.0 if we have not done so earlier and also disable HTML.
